Payment Program Overload--How to Make Sense of it?

It's hard to imagine a more complicated agenda of changes in how the payments industry is supposed to make payments and increase security of transacting.  Faster Payments, EMV, NFC/HCE, tokenization, encryption, 3-DS2.0 (and rival programs), blockchain ledgers, mobile wallets, ISO 20022, PCI/EMVCo specifications, digital/alternative payments, social network payment IDs...and on and on and on.  Some of these programs can serve the industry--especially the merchants and corporates who pay for most of them--well, but few offer a viable return on investment or a real advance in security.  This presentation will examine these programs and help attendees make some 'no-nonsense' sense of them--in the wake of growing fraud and massive cyber-threats. Learn the answer to this fundamental question: Are we wasting precious resources on these programs--when the industry could be better served by spending its money protecting all data from the source, and end-to-end in the processing chain?

SpeakerSteve Mott, Principal, BetterBuyDesign.

Steve Mott is a 25-year veteran of the electronic payments industry, specializing in ‘landscape’ and strategic assessments, transaction economics, innovative uses of debit networks, authentication and security technologies, and emerging alternative payments types and venues—including stored value, online and mobile commerce, cloud-based/digital marketing systems, and transacting over social networks.

As principal of BetterBuyDesign, a payments consultancy, Steve (and partner organizations) work with clients on strategy development, product research and design, organizational effectiveness and vendor management, technology evaluations, and market assessments. His clients include merchants, banks, processors, networks, technology providers and corporates.

Steve also advises investment firms on industry trends and developments, conducts business valuations and M&A/due diligence support, and serves as an expert witnesses in patent, trade secret, and other IP matters. Steve serves as a subject matter expert for the Federal Reserve and other industry organizations, speaks at two dozen payments conferences each year, and is a frequent contributor to Digital Transactions Magazine and n*genuity Journal. You can reach Steve at stevemottusa@gmail.com and 203.536.0588.

Cyber Security

Cyber Security has quickly become a topic of interest for many people, companies and governments around the globe.  The very same internet functionality that many of us are growing increasingly depended on presents with it risks that if not understood, can lead to the compromise of personally confidential information.  This same risk exists for the companies that rely on our data to perform routine functions and deliver a variety of common services.

This session will focus on explaining who today’s threat actors are, what are the most common threats and risks to be aware of, and will help you understand some of the common best practices you can take to help protect yourself as well as those around you.  This includes the companies you manage and the services you offer your customers/clients.
